A laminectomy is a surgical procedure that removes a small section of bone (the lamina) from the back of the vertebra. This creates more space in the spinal canal, reducing pressure on nerves caused by conditions like spinal stenosis or bone spurs.
This procedure can relieve pain, numbness, and weakness in the back or legs while helping patients return to their normal activities with greater comfort.
Dr. Ghosh performs laminectomy surgery using modern techniques designed to minimize tissue disruption and speed recovery.
Laminectomy may be recommended for patients with:
If you experience persistent pain, tingling, or weakness that hasn’t improved with therapy or medication, laminectomy spine surgery in San Diego may be an effective solution.
During a laminectomy, Dr. Ghosh makes a small incision over the affected area of the spine. The lamina (the back part of the vertebra) is carefully removed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.
The procedure typically involves:
Depending on the patient’s needs, Dr. Ghosh may perform a laminotomy (partial bone removal) or combine the procedure with spinal fusion surgery to stabilize the spine.
Laminectomy surgery can significantly improve comfort, function, and quality of life. Benefits include:
