Myelopathy refers to any process that impairs the function of the spinal cord. Myelopathy is a serious condition as untreated it may lead to complete paralysis, paraplegia, or quadriplegia. Potential causes of myelopathy include disc herniation with compression of the spinal cord and spinal stenosis. Symptoms of myelopathy include loss of sensation in the body, arms, or legs; loss of fine motor function or dexterity; impairment of gait; or loss of bowel and bladder function. Dr. Ghosh has substantial expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of myelopathy when it is due to compression from problems in the cervical or thoracic spine.
